Meet Arjun
I’m a Massachusetts native (born in Boston, grew up in Newton) and the proud parent of a current CPS student. Cambridge has been my home for more than 20 years. My pronouns are he/him.
My father came from India to the United States in 1968 to attend a public higher ed institution, Oklahoma State University, on a student visa. My family’s experience gave me a deep appreciation for the importance and value of our public education system, and the commitment we make to all communities to provide educational opportunity to all our residents, citizens and noncitizens alike.
My family lived the American Dream because of the promise of opportunity we have historically made to immigrants, and because of a higher education system that has been the envy of the world. Today, those two pillars of American society and identity are being eroded at lightning speed. Now, more than ever, Cambridge must commit to investing in our public schools, to protecting and safeguarding vulnerable communities, and to combating the systemic racism and economic inequality that lead to pervasive achievement gaps among our students.
By day, I’m an attorney and a public servant working for the Commonwealth in Boston. Previously, I worked in private practice for several years, and served as a law clerk for judges on the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. I have a B.S. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
In the community, I currently serve on the Graham and Parks School Council and as an officer of Friends of Graham and Parks, have coached for Cambridge Youth Soccer, performed with the North Cambridge Family Opera, and served a four-year term on the Democratic State Committee.
Hi. I’m Arjun. Sounds more or less like “Argentina.”
Me, and my wife Laura and our rising fourth-grader Danny.
